Kicking off summer with a race sounds like a ton of fun, right?

More than 60 of you agree, based on the comments shared when I announced last week that I had 4 entries to the North Mitten Half Marathon & 10K at Crystal Mountain to give away. Falling on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, this event is in its second year — and it’s clearly gaining recognition as a great way for runners to celebrate the start of warm weather.

The North Mitten 13.1 and 10K will take place Sunday, May 24 at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, MI., about 45 minutes from Traverse City.

“The terrain is diverse and fun,” says race director Janice Davidson of the North Mitten 10K and Half Marathon, which is set mostly on the property of Crystal Mountain. “The loop course starts on pavement to single track trail to dirt road, back to trail and back to pavement. The run is primarily flat with very small inclines along the pavement stretches.”

Race organizers offered four race entries to MRG readers — 2 half marathon entries, 2 10K entries — and I’m excited to share the winners today. I’m equally as excited to announce a special discount code for everyone else. With so many readers interested in running one of these races, Janice generously put together this discount code to encourage everyone to consider signing on.

First, the 4 winners…..

1.) Alicia Beachly, 10K winner. “Crystal Mountain is one of my most favorite places to staycation! I would love to run one of these races!”

2.) Sara Love, half marathon winner. “My 40th birthday was this year and I have been training to finish a half marathon to honor that milestone! I would love to run this one!”

3.) Sue Straley, 10K winner. “I would like to do the 10K. A friend of mine had asked me to do this race and I have not made a commitment. I have had some minor health issues although I am running short distances when possible. I think winning a spot for the 10K would give me the extra motivation I need to make it possible.”

4.) T.C. Glotfelty, half marathon winner. “I would love to run the half marathon. Having lived in Michigan almost my entire life, I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t really seen much of the northern part of the state and its beauty. Seems like a perfect opportunity.”

Congratulations, Alicia, Sara, Sue and T.C.! Please email me at michiganrunnergirl [at] gmail [dot] com to claim your prize.

For everyone else, please use the following code to save $8 off your race entry (either 10K or half marathon): APRILMRG
