Hi! I am an asst. cross country coach at Bloomfield Hills High School. We are holding our first ever 5k run on Sunday, August 11 in memory of a student who died of a sudden, unexpected cardiac event and in memory of a CC mom who just passed 2 months ago. We will be raising money for the Beaumont Student Heart Screening program and the Lupus Foundation. Any help you can give us in spreading the word would be most appreciated!!

The event is listed on Run Michigan and the Bloomfield Rec Department. We also have a FB page called Run 2 Remember. There is a 5 man HS team division which would be great for any of those HS athletes who would like to gauge where they are in their training just before the season begins.

Here is our Run Michigan link:

All proceeds of the race will go towards the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation, which promotes leukemia research and the Moross Greenway Project, which plants Michigan native trees and wildflowers to create a sustainable landscape on the Eastside of Detroit.

  12. Girls on the Run of Greater Detroit needs enthusiastic volunteers for our 5K on Sunday, May 21, at Lake St. Clair Metropark (31300 Metro Parkway, Harrison Township, MI 48045). We have thousands of area boys and girls coming — and for most, it will be their first 5K. There are many jobs available, but Course Marshals are a big need (and a fun job!). Here’s the description for that position:

    Course Marshals/Spirit Stations/Wave Leaders
Morning shift: Check in at 7:45 a.m.
Afternoon Shift: Check in at 11:45 a.m.
Volunteers can also work both shifts.
Duties: Help us point our youth in the right direction! We will need volunteers along the route to ensure participants follow the correct route. We also encourage you to cheer them on! Bring a group of 8 or more to be considered a “Cheer Station”. Cheer Stations typically have a theme.

If you can volunteer some time for this amazing event, please register here:

    • Hi, Cherisa!

I am not aware of any off the top of my head, but I am thinking there must be one out there…have you tried contacting local community groups in these areas? If I hear of any, I will be sure to let you know. You can also check the searchable race and event calendar here on my site — new races are added all the time by race organizers! https://michiganrunnergirl.com/events/

All three of these races raise funds to support our annual campaign which provides the opportunity for hundreds of children in our community to attend Y programs, including summer camp, after school programs, and preschool to name a few, at little or no cost through financial assistance.
