Writing this post today is especially timely given the temperature outside: 88 degrees.

It’s steamy hot. It feels like summer.

Never mind that it’s going to cool off into the 50s this coming week. That’s fine. Today, I am savoring the heat and this delicious taste of what we all have to look forward to as we inch ever so closer to summer…

GlenArbor-SolsticeLogoLong-HonorBank-1500Today, along with enjoying this summer afternoon with my office window wide open, I am happy to have one free entry to next month’s Glen Arbor Solstice Half Marathon & 5K to give away. Maybe you’re like me and have been itching to run this race for a few years now. Or maybe you’ve run the half or 5K before and would like to do so again. Either way, race organizers Endurance Evolution have offered one free entry, to either the half or 5K, to one MRG reader.

I’m looking forward to the gorgeous scenery and great race vibe (I helped work an aid station on the half marathon course a couple of years ago and it was such a great experience). Here’s more about the half and 5K courses from race director Eric Houghton:

“The half marathon has amazing scenery! Some of the best in Leelanau County. The view at the scenic turnout at Inspiration Point is breathtaking and the run through the “narrows” with views of Big and Little Glen Lake and the dunes will help ease the pain near mile 11. The 5K is essentially traffic-free on the tree-lined avenues just off downtown Glen Arbor. It is a flat and relatively easy course.”

Ready to run it? To enter to win free entry, please comment below why you’d like to run this race AND what you like most about summertime in Michigan.

The giveaway starts today, May 7, 2015, and ends next Wednesday, May 13, 2015. The winner will be announced here on the blog toward the end of next week.

Good luck to everyone!

I have been looking at this race for a while now. I would love to make it a weekend and camp and race there. I look forward to Summer ever year. I love the Lake Michigan beaches.

  2. Jennifer Taylor

My friends and I just decided to add this race to our summer race list. My daughter is living/working in Glen Arbor for the summer and it would give me an excuse to see her (not that I really need one…lol).

  3. Andrea Cherwinski

I have been thinking about this race but have been up in the air about actually doing it because of how close it is to the Charlevoix race. But if I had a free entry I would defineatly do it lol. I love getting to run outside without 500 layers of clothes on!

i messed up my hip + had to drop out of the bayshore half. :( i was able to sell my entry to a fellow runner who will be turning 60 (!!!) the day after the race. the solstice half is far enough off that my now healing hip will allow for ample training for 13.1 miles! what do i like best about summertime in northern mi…sunshine + warm temps + all my summer friends who come from all over the USA to the best place on earth!! (and I am blessed to live here year around…just not the biggest fan of subzero temps…)

I would love this to be my first half because of its beautiful atmosphere and smaller race feel. I want to be able to enjoy Mother Nature, relax on a nice run and not feel over crowded with 5,000 other runners joining me. My favorite summer activity is running with my son or enjoying time relaxing on our boat.

Up north races seem amazing! I have never ran this one and would absolutely love too! I would proudly wear my MRG tank doing it! Thanks for all you do for Michigan women runners!

This would give me an excuse to visit a spectacular city! I have yet to visit Michigan and I want to travel for my next half marathon. I love summertime because it is when I do most of my running and jogging since it is so nice out!

  8. Christine Valenzuela

I would love to run this race because I just ran my first 25K and I loved the distance! This race looks to be much more scenic, which is a nice feature in a race. I also love summers in Michigan because there are so many beautiful places to visit. My son and I take lots of road trips together exploring everything that Michigan has to offer.
