Jeff, who writes about running and racing in Michigan at DetroitRunner.com, calls this race course his favorite ever for the 5K distance.

Jeff W., who many of you likely know as Detroit Runner, shares a favorite spot to run in the latest edition of My Michigan Run. (Read on to the end to learn more about how you can contribute to this regular feature). Jeff, who lives in the northeastern suburbs of Detroit, loves to race in the city. “You really get a much different perspective of Detroit while running a race there,” he says, “and I think that many who have not been down to races in Detroit have no idea how nice many parts of Detroit are. It’s one of my favorite places to race … I’m not in Detroit all the time to train, but I love racing there.”

I just ran the Mustache Dache 5K this month. It’s one of the nicest areas Detroit has completed, and follows into The Milliken State Park. This was the first year of the race and now my favorite 5K route.

The course basically went down Atwater street starting in an industrial area and up past the Renaissance Center with a turnaround at the Port Authority. We made our way back on the riverfront and Riverwalk with a jaunt into the Milliken State Park. I’ve never been at the State Park there and it was really nice to run through it. … This now goes down as my favorite 5K course of all time. Obviously, I love running in Detroit, and Justin and Alia, the owners of RUNdetroit put together an excellent course.

Where do you love to run? if you are interested in sharing a beloved Michigan running location, wherever it may be throughout lower Michigan or the Upper Peninsula, email a picture and a description of the area (and why you like running there so much) to: michiganrunnergirl [at] gmail [dot] com (Please try to keep your story/description to 300 words or less). I’d love to feature a variety of routes, from city landscapes, rocky or sandy shorelines, wide open hills and meadows, tree-lined trails…you get the picture. I can’t wait to see your running route!
