Each Friday I’ll share a popular post from that week’s Michigan Runner Girl Facebook page. If you’re not already part of the MRG community over there, please join us for lively conversation about all things running in the Mitten–looking forward to seeing you there!

How to stay warm during your workout on a snowy 6-degree day (“feels like -10):
1.) Layers. Lots of layers.
2.) Strap on your snowshoes (break out the pair featuring mounted running shoes and smile at your decision a couple of years ago to get these just before your first snowshoe race).
3.) Head to the trails with your dogs. Remind them it’s all about staying in motion. Just keep moving. They bound ahead; they clearly get it.
4.) Run through the deep, fluffy snow.
5.) Walk and savor the quiet of the woods.
6.) Definitely walk the steep hills.
7.) Listen to an inspiring podcast about people pushing themselves “to the edge” — crossing oceans in a 23-foot boat, trekking to the North Pole solo, exploring the depths of the Earth.
8.) Feel badass in your own way. It is frigid out here!
9.) Break trail whenever possible.
10.) Feel so grateful.

What’s your badass winter runner story?
I absolutely love snowshoe running but I don’t get to do a lot of it these days!! I didn’t know they made “mounted” running shoes in them?? Sounds like a genius idea!!
Hi Allie! Great to hear from you. :) I think you have them specially made…I was fortunate to find someone who was able to do this for me. It really is nice to have the shoes mounted on the snowshoes!!
So far, my most badass winter running moment this year was running along a bike path last week during a break in the winter storm. The wind chill was -15 degrees and I was hurdling three foot snow drifts for the better part of four miles! #beastmode #relentlessforwardmotion
