When was the last time you ran a 6K race? (That’s 3.72 miles.) How about participating in one that helps bring awareness to the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health issues? A new fall running race in southwest Michigan is your way of doing both — and MRG has a special race discount code to share for this event, too. The Heroes in Recovery 6K race series, a fun run/walk with a mission to break the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health issues, is set for Sunday, Sept. 23 in Kalamazoo.
Why 6K? “It takes a heroic effort to live clean and sober each day, and a Heroes 6K celebrates that effort,” say race organizers. “The sixth kilometer separates a Heroes race from a typical 5K to symbolize the extra effort it takes to sustain recovery. The six kilometers also represent the six letters in the word HEROES.”
Heroes in Recovery races take place in numerous cities across the country. Some participants run to celebrate their own recovery, while others walk to remember a loved one they lost to addiction. But the races aren’t just about crossing the finish line — they’re about bringing together a community to support local charities and #BreakTheStigma surrounding addiction and mental health issues.
Join the Heroes 6K team on Sunday, Sept. 23 in Spring Valley Park for the Kalamazoo Heroes in Recovery 6K. Special for MRG readers: use code RUNMI for 6% off. Register today HERE!
