Winter & Spring 2018

The Second annual Snow Moon Trail Run takes place Feb. 3, 2018 in Midland, Mich. This race is a collaboration between organizers of the MUTT Series of races and the Bay City Morning Rotary Driathlon. The snow moon is a traditional name for the full moon that occurs in February in North America. This event has runners embracing the snow and cold air temperatures with a fun race through the dark. Runners embark on one of several race distance options – 5K, 15K or 25K – along a 5K loop of wide trails (not single track) through the woods of City Forest in Midland, Michigan. Runners completing multiple laps will run through a chute located inside of the Snow Moon event tent. After you finish, be sure to bring your own adult beverage to consume as you cheer on those braving the cold night run as they run past you through the tent.

The 6th annual Groundhog Day Marathon, Half Marathon and 1/6 Marathon is Feb. 2-3, 2018 in Grand Rapids. Race background: We’ve all heard of Punxsutawney Phil, the little furry guy in Pennsylvania who comes out, sees his shadow, and declares six more weeks of winter. Then there’s Augustus T. Groundhog, better known as Grand Rapids Gus. He’s Phil’s much more interesting cousin. Unlike Phil, who it seems can only see shadows, Gus has much better eyesight and can look at a calendar on February 2 and know that spring doesn’t start for six weeks. Gus suggested that instead of lamenting over six more weeks of winter, we should EMBRACE the cold and snow and do something fun.
And so, the Groundhog Day Marathon was born.
